PDO (Polydioxanone) Threads

PDO threads is a non-surgical procedure that can help lift , tighten, and contour by means of the insertion of a dissolvable suture with a cannula underneath the skin's surface. In addition to lifting, volumizing and firming benefits, the introduction of the PDO thread can initiate collagen production, improving the overall appearance of your skin.

How do they work?

PDO threads are versatile and can be used in a number of areas on the face or body to create and improve:

  • Lift to mid/lower face
  • Sagging skin: jowls, nasolabial folds
  • Define and Sharpen the jawline
  • Lift eyebrows
  • Shape eyes
  • Tighten the neck
  • Volumize Lips
  • Volumize Cheeks

How long do I have to wait before I see results?

Most individuals see immediate results especially when lifting threads are used. Your results will continue to improve over the next 4-6 weeks. Depending on your anatomy and goals, most patients receive 3 treatments spaced 4-6 weeks apart then once yearly for maintenance.

Are PDO threads replacing dermal fillers?

Not necessarily. Dermal fillers can be used to fill areas of your place where volume loss has occurred . For many patients the results of a thread lift can be similar to that of filler but without adding roundness or bulk to your face which can sometimes appear unnatural or swollen. PDO threads can be a great alternative for individuals who do not require any additional volume but want a more “lifted” look.

Given the versatility of threads, most areas of the face can be treated with PDO threads such as cheeks, the jawline, under eye, crows feet, eyebrows, forehead, lip contour, smokers lines, jowls and marionette lines. PDO threads are also being used for nonsurgical nose jobs and pose far less risk than filler. Please note that this procedure is advanced and currently not being provided by TTB at this time but likely coming soon pending approval.

Does it hurt? What is the Recovery Time?

A topical and or local anesthetic may be used to help you feel more comfortable. Generally speaking individuals describe it as a “strange feeling”. Lifting threads used near your jaw line can feel more tender. Threads used near your lip area like any other product can be sensitive given the vascularity of this region.

You may experience some tightness where the threads have been inserted and pain shortly after the procedure. The duration of this discomfort can vary between 1-7 days and vary based on the type of threads used and the amount. You can take tylenol for discomfort.

How Long is the Procedure?

More time is generally spent in consultation and providing education and reviewing the treatment plan. Depending on the procedure in question the duration does vary and generally ranges between 30-60 minutes.

When Will I See the Full Results of My Thread Lift?

Your results will be seen instantly, and they will improve over time. Your full results will be seen around 4-6 weeks and your body will continue to produce collagen for up to a year following treatment.

How Much Does a Thread Lift Cost?

It depends on how many areas are treated and how many threads are used, the average cost can range between $600 and $1500.

Can I Resume Activity After My Procedure? Can Other Treatments be Used if I have PDO Threads?

Yes however as previously mentioned you may have some discomfort. We strongly advise avoiding smoking, excessive facial animation and vigorous exercise for at least 48 hours. Most individuals can return to work and go on with their day. You may have some bruising and swelling to the area which should subside within 12-72 hours.

Other Considerations and Post Care Instructions:

  • Avoid sleeping on your face (7-10 days)
  • Avoid vigorous rubbing or manipulation of the areas that have been treated. Using a gentle face wash and air drying are recommended.
  • Avoid direct sunlight or tanning beds for 14 days
  • The use of steam room or saunas for 14 days
  • If you have had dental surgery we will ask that you wait at least 3 weeks post procedure.
  • Avoid facial massage or other treatments for up to 4 weeks
  • Avoid vigorous exercise for 2-10 days

Can I Resume Activity After My Procedure? Can Other Treatments be Used if I have PDO Threads?

PDO thread lifts and treatment can make great adjunct treatments with neurotoxins, dermal fillers and other skin treatments. We would likely have these treatments scheduled for another time. If you have recently had a chemical peel, laser or other treatments we may recommend that you wait.

What are Mono threads

Mono threads are smooth threads without barbs and do not require a pilot hole. Many of these thread types are placed into the face and neck in a mesh-like fashion for skin tightening and rejuvenation. Skin tightening usually improves after collagen starts forming around the threads. The treatment areas are often necklines, neck saginess, forehead and under eyes. These can also be used for lip flips and eyebrow lifts.

I am Interested. What are my Next Steps?

You can call or text to book your private consultation with our thread expert who has worked with a level four thread expert practitioner in southern Ontario who will review your main concerns of your face or body and what procedure is most appropriate based on your anatomy, concerns, budget and goals. Once these recommendations have been made and you are an appropriate candidate for PDO thread treatment an appointment will be made with Jennifer Williamson, certified PDO thread clinician and RN who will review your consent, medical history and treatment plan along with their medical director.
